My name is Sherif Hedayat. I am an Egyptian-American stand up comedian from Dayton, Ohio. I was born in Athens, Greece on July 17, 1974. I moved to the U.S. for the first time in 1979 and then moved to Egypt two years later for my father’s work. I spent the next five years getting to know my heritage while attending Cairo American College (a K-12 American school). In December 1986 my family returned to Dayton, Ohio where I have lived ever since.
I graduated from Centerville High School and went on to attain my Liberal Arts Degree in Mass Communications from Wright State University. During my college career I interned for a local radio station, WGTZ-93, because I wanted to do something fun and a friend of mine happened to be a DJ there. I performed every job from cleaning the studios to setting up for live remotes. Upon graduation I was offered a full-time job as an Account Executive.
After a year in that position I realized I wasn’t suited for a cubicle and I had an opportunity to start an internet website design and marketing company. I sold the company after two years. I had reached a point in my life where I didn’t know what I wanted to do. It just so happened my high school friend’s father was a World Poker Tour champion Ron Rose. I had always had a fascination with poker and gambling in general. It was a challenge because I couldn’t beat the games. After learning a few thing things from Ron I decided I was going to play for a living. I spent about 3 years playing poker and then realized it was not the direction I wanted to go in life. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a fairly easy way to make money if you know what you’re doing but I wanted more out of life.
Over the years I had always turned to stand up comedy to avoid the realities of life. My most recent job had been an online sales position at Lexis Nexis in their online division. The job was right up my alley and the pay was great. Once again, after about eight months, I decided to walk away from a great job that I loved and that paid well.
This would be the last time I would work in the corporate world. I had returned to comedy and I spend about 16 hours a day working on developing my online presence and booking shows. I formed a company to manage my websites and merchandising. Erratic Media Group, Inc. was formed as an umbrella company that would run my websites, www.funnysherif.com, www.sheriftv.com, www.arabcomedy.tv and most recently the production and distribution of my first DVD titled “Moving Target” (May 2009 release).
I was diagnosed with ADHD in my third year of college. Many people look at ADHD as a disorder, I see it as a blessing because I am able to do so many different things simultaniously. I currently have a reality show I am pitching titled SHERIFTV. I would eventually like to see the show get picked up so I can have a story to tell when I pursue my final goal in life as a motivational speaker.
This website is about the personal things in my life. All the underlying stories that everyone doesn’t see with my comedy sites, reality show sites and any of my other business sites. I will probably also use this site to vent….that’s the fun part
